Megamind – What Makes Jesus Different?

by Yo Snyder

Hebrews 7:25 “Therefore he is able to save completely those
who come to God, through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” In
the movie Megamind, one of the great
gags is Roxanne Richie asking to have her frequent kidnapping card stamped. You
see, she’s a regular part of the ongoing battle between the villainous and
inept Megamind and the heroic but clueless Metroman. It also highlights one of
the interesting mainstays of superhero stories; no matter how many times a hero
saves a person or a city, it always ends up being in danger again. That’s the big
difference between every super hero ever imagined and Jesus. Super heroes may
be able to save a body in peril for a moment, but sooner or later that body
will be in peril all over again. Jesus, however, doesn’t just save a body, but
he saves the soul. More than that, he doesn’t just save it for a moment, but he
saves it for all eternity. I love how this verse in Hebrews puts it; in short,
Jesus “is able to save completely”. Isn’t that great, when you come to Jesus
you are saved completely; not for a moment, not just for now, not just from
immediate danger but completely, thoroughly, entirely saved. There’s isn’t a
super hero anywhere that’s capable of that, which is why this is good news we
need to share.
