Jesus Christ: Superhero – A Hero’s Work Is Never Done

by Yo Snyder

John 19:30 “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
Have you ever noticed how a superhero’s job is never done? As soon as one super
villain’s maniacal evil plot is stopped, another is out to try and take over
the world, or rob banks. Not only that, but there’s all those people who are special
to the superhero –friends, family, loved ones – who constantly need saving. It
just seems to me that being a superhero could get really frustrating after
awhile because no matter how much you do, it’s never really enough. That’s what
sets Jesus Christ apart from every other hero, super or otherwise; he actually
finished the job. When Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to save
us from our sins, he completed the task. All it took was that one sacrifice
from God’s only son to save all of us from our sins and to bring us eternal
life. There isn’t another hero out there who has ever been able to say of their
task “it is finished”. So while those other heroes constantly scramble around
fighting the so-called “never ending fight against evil”, know that there is
one hero who finished the fight against evil, who saved us once for all, and
one day will return to celebrate his victory with us. Doesn’t that sound like
good news?
