Gears of War 3 – Being Brothers and Sisters to the End

by Yo Snyder

2 Thessalonians 2:15 “So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to
you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.” In the new game Gears of War 3,
humanity is facing extinction (but then again, in these kind of games, when
isn’t it). The setting is bleak, the odds against you are enormous, and it just
doesn’t seem like you have much of a chance to survive. But there is one ray of
hope in the darkness; you still have your fellow Cogs (soldiers), people who
are your friends, friends who are more like brothers and sisters, and they will
stand with you to the end. In fact, that’s the tag line for the game; Brothers
to the End. You know, the church is facing some difficult times. The need for
its very existence is being questioned. Our enemy seems to be swarming across
the globe and there’s little that we can do to stop it. The world we live in is
in desperate need of help and hope, and yet far too often, instead of standing
as brothers to the end, we end up standing against each other as we quibble
over minor issues. If there’s ever been a time where unity is needed in the
body of Christ — in all churches across denominational lines — it’s now. If
there’s ever a time where the children of God needed to stand firm, together
and united until the very end, it’s right now. If we are going to share the
light of the good news with a world plunged in darkness, we need to take the
battle to the enemy; together, as one, with boldness and stand together;
brothers and sisters to the end.
