CoD and Battlefield – Progression And Rewards For Christians

by Yo Snyder

Matthew 16:27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in his
Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.” Two video
games alone have already accounted for over 13 million copies being sold in
just two weeks, and it’s roughly about that many people who have go online with
either Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Now, some of you may be
wondering what exactly the allure is of these games that put you in a soldier’s
shoes and invite you to play war. The answer is actually quite simple;
accomplishment and reward. These games constantly update you on how you’re
progressing and reward that progression with new gear, weapons and equipment
that can help improve your game and help you progress further. In short, you
have a constant sense of accomplishment in these games. Sometimes I wonder if
that wouldn’t benefit us as Christians. If we could see how well we’re
progressing and see the rewards we’re earning and what we’re accomplishing,
would more of us be motivated to get out there and engage in the battle? You
know, the good news is as we follow Christ we progressing; we’re daily becoming
more and more like him as we humbly submit our will to his. And, we are earning
rewards for the work we do. They may not mean much when we get to heaven and
are in the presence of God, but he will reward us for all we do here and now.
We may not have little graphical representations of how we’re doing, or little
announcements that pop-up when we unlock something new, but as we faithfully
follow Christ, share the good news and resist evil, we are accomplishing great
things and are earning far better perks than any video game could ever give us.
